Welcome Pack 2024

Welcome,

Firstly, thank you for joining and I hope you have some fun here at Brixworth Tennis Club.

Brixworth Tennis Club was established in 2013 and I like to think that the Club is friendly, welcoming and has a strong family atmosphere.  Whether you enjoy social tennis with friends and family, play in local league matches or anything in between then Brixworth Tennis Club is most definitely the place for you.

We have a diverse membership of adults and juniors with ages ranging from our youngest mini-red players aged 3 to our oldest member who is over 70. We understand that everyone’s reason for joining a tennis club is different as are their standards and aspirations and, I hope, you will agree that we try to cater for them all.

Brixworth Tennis Club is committed to prioritising the well-being of all children and adults, and we promote safeguarding in our Club at all times, including all programmes and events that we run. We try and make social events part of our Club with events added and promoted throughout the year. They are posted on the display boards in the clubhouse, on the Club website page as well as WhatsApp and Facebook. So, keep an eye out and make sure you don’t miss any events.

Finally, whatever your tennis ambition and on behalf of the Club’s committee:

Welcome to Brixworth Tennis Club.

Simon Yarwood
Club Chair

Essential Information

COURT BOOKING

Our courts can be booked through the Clubspark app on your phone or via the website.  Go to the App Store on your mobile phone and search for ClubSpark Booker and download.   Courts can be booked up to 1 week in advance.  We ask that if you cancel your court booking within 48 hours you put a note on the WhatsApp group letting other members know the date and time and that a court is now available.

COURT PADLOCK CODE

Each year the court padlock code changes with the new tennis season.  We’ll let you know what this on the main BTC WhatsApp group.

FOOTWEAR & MEMBERSHIP TAGS

The courts are particularly sensitive to damage so only tennis shoes should be worn on the courts at all times please. This is for two reasons: ‘other’ shoes can mark and damage the courts and non-tennis shoes do not grip the court as well and can cause accidents and avoidable injury.

We ask all members to ensure they have their membership tags on them and if possible they are clearly displayed at all times as proof of current membership. Any player not able to produce a valid membership tag may be asked to leave the courts.

Membership Tags can be collected from the Clubhouse during Club Nights

CLUB HOUSE ACCESS CODE

Each year the club access code changes with the new tennis season.  We’ll let you know what this is on the main BTC WhatsApp group.  The club house has a toilet and drinks making facilities.

COMMUNICATION

Information is posted in the clubhouse; newsletters are emailed to members and posts are shared on the website and on FaceBook. There are 2 WhatsApp groups; a news group where information about the club will be posted and a members group for organising matches.  There are other groups you may also elect to join. Please note that if you join a WhatsApp group, your phone number will be available to other members.

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER

The Welfare Officer is pivotal to the promotion of safety and well-being at the Club, along with ensuring that children, young people and adults at risk are able to participate in tennis in a fun, safe and inclusive environment. If you have any concerns, then you can contact the Club welfare officer by emailing welfare@brixworthtennisclub.org.uk. Your email will be treated with the strictest confidence and will only be seen by the welfare officer, no-one else within the Club has access to the Welfare Officer’s emails.

More information and documents on Safeguarding & Welfare can be found on our website.

Brixworth Tennis Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The Club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents/guardians associated with the Club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the Club with the Club Welfare Officer.

  • We create a culture where inclusive leadership thrives.
  • We take a proactive approach using positive action to ensure that communities and individuals are valued and able to achieve their full potential.

To achieve these aims we believe that everyone involved in Tennis has a vital role to play in promoting diversity and inclusion and we ask everyone to become Safe and Inclusive Tennis Champions–proactively promoting Safe and Inclusive tennis and taking action against all forms of discrimination.  For our full diversity and inclusion policy, please click here

SAFEGUARDING WHISTLE BLOWING POLICY

Our full policy on Whistle Blowing can be found here

CLUB SESSIONS

Club sessions are notified to members via WhatsApp, Facebook or the website and you can sign-up by responding to the person organising the event.

New members are very welcome to join us for a game of clubl tennis. All levels of mixed abilities regularly play throughout the year, just turn up and join in!

To encourage inclusivity, we ask that a game of doubles (where possible) consisting of four games is played after which the players mix up again for another game – a great way to make new friends and contacts, and to arrange social play throughout the week. Whatever your level of play, you will be guaranteed a warm welcome!  For any further details, or to arrange to be met at the Club on your first visit, then please contact us and we will ensure you are looked after.

The Club will always try and provide tennis balls for Club nights.

COACHING

Our coaching is provided by Phil Smith – to find out more about him, please visit the website.  To organise a coaching session, we encourage you to contact Phil directly and he will arrange a suitable time and book the court.

We have coaching organised for different ages and abilities through the week. We’ll let you know via WhatsApp if there are any changes or new courses added and you can sign up from the links on the website

LADDERS AND LEAGUES

These are excellent opportunities to meet other members of the Club in a competitive but friendly environment. All standards of players are welcome. Keep an eye out on the WhatsApp group for the sign up messages.  We currently have the following ladders & leagues.

  • Singles Ladder
  • Doubles Ladies Ladder

SUMMER & WINTER LEAGUE MATCHES

Brixworth Tennis Club participates in both the Northants Summer and Winter Tennis Leagues with a representation in the Ladies, Men’s and Mixed divisions. It’s a great way of testing your skills against other clubs in Northamptonshire.  All the matches are doubles and you can play in more than one team e.g. Winter and Summer, Men’s and Mixed. Subs are paid for each match that you join.

Any members who are interested in playing in any of our Summer or Winter league teams should email:  captain@brixworthtennisclub.org.uk

SQUAD PRACTICE

If you join one of the leagues, you may be invited to Squad Practice by the captain.  They will notify you of the times and dates for practice.

BALLS

Balls can be purchased from a member of the committee. Ask one of the committee to get either new or match balls for you and submit your payment directly to the tennis club.

  • Tube of 4no New Balls – £5
  • Tube of 4no Match Balls (used at home matches for 4 sets) – £1

There is ball recycling in the clubhouse.  If you have any balls that are no longer good for tennis, we send them to be repumped and resold.  Please don’t put any wet balls in the recycling bin as unfortunately these cannot be renewed.

PAYMENTS

To pay subs or for balls, we ask that you either give your subs to your captain or pay them directly into the club bank account.

COURT ETIQUETTE

  • Spectators and all non-players are not allowed on court but are welcome to watch from the seated areas outside the clubhouse.
  • Do not move across or behind any court when play is in progress for safety reasons and also as a courtesy to the players on court who may be distracted or interrupted.  Players should wait until the completion of at least a point, if not a game, then leave by walking around the perimeter of the adjacent court as quickly and discreetly as possible and shut the gate behind them.
  • Line calls should be made quickly and clearly, and the receiver of the ball has the final say.
  • If the ball strikes the net cord and then subsequently wins the point, the player should hold his hand up and offer an apology to the opposition.
  • Refrain from using foul language or any form of threatening, racist, intimidatory or abusive language or behaviour towards other players, Club officials, coaching personnel or spectators.
  • At the end of your game, if no-one is waiting to play, please lower the nets.
  • All members must ensure the court gates are shut before leaving the Club, even if there are other members still on court.
  • Members are asked to put their litter into the bins provided or take it home with them.

One of the benefits of being a member at the club is your access to the LTA Advantage Ballot for Wimbledon tickets. In order to be eligible for entry into the ballot you need to have LTA Advantage Membership (LTA), which is free, and have opted into the ballot via the LTA website.
